JUNE WRAP UP- 1

June was a very good reading month for me as I had been piling up books since a frigging YEAR to read. I admit that I'm a book hoarder but a proud one! Last year I wasn't much into reading books because of college and other things, but I used to buy books and keep em' so that I could hog them all at once (but only when I thought I was ready to get into my 'avid reader' phase again!) And that happened this JUNE, so I welcomed Summer with open arms and LOTS of books to read.

(Yes this was me this summer)

Sadly, I don't think I'll be able to read a lot in the month of July as it'll be a really busy month for me because I'm interning under a Criminal Lawyer (WHAAAAA??) and I also have other things to do, but hey, you never know, maybe I'll read a fair amount of books this month too?

So I read around 12 books and 1 e-book this month!
This wrap- up will be done in 3 parts, because 13 books and so much to say!!

(PART 1/3)

  • Percy Jackson and the Olympians- The Lightning Thief (Rick Riordan)

I was just a normal kid, going to school, playing
basketball, skateboarding. The usual.
Until I accidentally vaporized my maths teacher.
That's when things really started going wrong.
Now I spend my time fighting with swords,
battling monsters with my friends and generally trying to stay alive.

Thoughts: I really, really, really (times thousands) liked this book by Rick Riordan. It is the first book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. I already have a review for this one on my blog here http://thewordaholics.blogspot.in/2016/06/percy-jackson-lightning-thief.html. It is a fun read and we get to know all about Greek Mythology and Demigods. All in all, it was an action packed book with some Percy sass and it was really well developed and the premise the book was set in was amazing too. It kept me on the edge at all times.
This book also has a movie adaptation, which I actually saw before I read the book (bummer, I know). I used to think the movie was really good (HELLO? LOGAN LERMAN) but after I read the book, the movie nowhere even stands near the book!
My rating:

  • The Mortal Instruments- City of Bones (Cassandra Clare)

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the
Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects
to witness a murder― much less a murder committed by
three teenagers covered with strange tattoos
and brandishing bizarre weapons.

Thoughts: I cannot believe how many people are cray- cray after this book! But let me tell you, it deserves all the hype it gets. This is also the very first book in a series of 6 books. I read this while I was reading PJO, and I thoroughly enjoyed both of them. It is a Young adult novel with a blend of romance and fantasy fiction in it. The character detailing the author did was just commendable, the characters and the setting of the premise is the highlight of this book. It revolves around a girl, Clary Fray, who just finds out that she's a Shadowhunter (people who kill demons and protect the Humans) and on the same day her mother gets kidnapped. She then meets these three Shadowhunters- Jace Wayland (her possible future love interest), Alec and Isabelle Lighthouse and they help her to ind her mother. She then enters the world of Shadowhunters and in order to find her mother Jocelyn, she has to find the Mortal Cup (a very important Mortal Instrument) before her father- Valentine (the villain) finds it.
The book is a legend urban fantasy as it is all about angels and demons and warlocks and their mesmerizing antics. This book had been on my TBR pile since a long time but when I started reading it, the pages flew by. The characters just leap off the page and straight into your heart.
This book also had a movie adaptation which was really amazing but sadly no other parts were released. Then the book was turned into a TV series by the Freeform Channel called 'Shadowhunters'!
My rating:

    • Percy Jackson and the Olympians- Sea of Monsters (Rick Riordan)

It's not easy being a half-blood these days,
Even a simple game of dodgeball can turn into a death
match against an ugly gang of cannibal giants-
    and that's just the beginning.

Now Camp Half-Blood is under attack and, unless
I can get my hands on the Golden Fleece, the whole
camp will be invaded by monsters, Big ones...

Thoughts: I have a review for this one too- http://thewordaholics.blogspot.in/2016/06/percy-jackson-thesea-of-monsters-even.htmlEven though I loved this book, it is my least favorite of the series. No, I do not hate this book, it's just that the series just keeps getting better and better! Now Percy is 13 and he is no longer this doe- eyed teenager we first met in The Lightning Thief. He is full of a lot more confidence and is starting to understand the importance of his position and heritage. The story is spent exploring the Sea of Monsters where Riordan weaves Greek Mythology into our world seamlessly, building on an already established environment in a fantastical yet completely believable way.
This part also has a movie adaptation, which to be completely honest, SUCKS! Even though I wanted to see all the movies, I'm glad they stopped production after this movie. So read the books and don't watch the movies beforehand.
    My rating:

    • Finding Audrey (Sophie Kinsella)

An anxiety disorder disrupts fourteen-year-old Audrey’s daily life. She has been making slow but steady progress with Dr. Sarah, but when Audrey meets Linus, her brother’s gaming teammate, she is energized. She connects with him. Audrey can talk through her fears with Linus in a way she’s never been able to do with anyone before. As their friendship deepens and her recovery gains momentum, a sweet romantic connection develops, one that helps not just Audrey but also her entire family.

Thoughts: I finished this off in just one sitting. It's a very fast paced, fun to read book by Sophie. Even though it deals with a very sensitive topic like Social Anxiety Disorder, the author finds a way to express it in a totally non- platonic way. It is a very light read with a tinge of romance in it which lifts up the mood of the readers. I just flew by the pages. I really like Audrey's and Linus's characters. The opening scene between Audrey's mom and her brother is just so hilarious and totally relatable (as most moms do that).
Anyone who's looking for a fun Young Adult Contemporary novel to read, just give Finding Audrey a chance and you won't be disappointed.
